He kept her secrets, especially with Dawn, and tried to become someone she could love.
She can’t, and they kiss, and Spike wakes up, realizing his feelings for Buffy.
Buffy finds out, and she’s disappointed.
The vulnerability pushes them to share their first real kiss.
While their romantic moments were scarce, they shared a more meaningful bond.
He was integral to helping the Potential Slayers train and was always on her side.
He paired up with Angel’s team to help but was still pining for Buffy.
