Even though the urban fantasy genre was heavily oversaturated near the end of the 2010s,Lucifer’s best charactershelped keep the stories fresh and interesting, and Charlotte Richards (Tricia Helfer) was chief among them.

She was only a supporting character, but Charlotte left a big impact on the series and its final season.

Charlotte Richards Was A Lawyer Who Became The Goddess' Vessel

Introduced in the series as a high-powered criminal defense attorney and senior partner at Richards and Wheeler, Charlotte Richards was anything but good as she made a good living helping dangerous criminals win their cases.

While trying to take down a cartel operation with the help of one of her clients, Charlotte was murdered by a hitman and her soul was sent to Hell.

Charlotte’s particular Hell loop was tailored to her own pain, and she was forced to watch the criminals she helped to free murder her family again and again while she could only smile and do nothing.

Even as Charlotte’s soul was sent down to Hell, her body became the vessel for The Goddess who used her physical form to escape the confines of Hell.

Charlotte is conducted to heaven in Lucifer

Lucifer convinces The Goddess to depart Charlotte’s body and create a universe for herself in The Void, and Charlotte is resurrected with no memory of her time being possessed.

She begins to put together the pieces of her past, and eventually decides to reform her ways by cooperating with the police to bring down her killer.

Marcus Pierce Kills Charlotte

While helping Amenadiel to bring down Forest King Clay for his myriad of evil crimes, Charlotte is shot and killed by Marcus Pierce who actually intended to kill Amenadiel.

Lucifer

In her last act on Earth, Charlotte sacrificed herself for her client, and Amenadiel conducted her soul to heaven personally after the spontaneous regeneration of his wings.

Besides being one ofLucifer’s most heartbreaking moments, it also completed Charlotte’s brilliant arc as a character from a hellbound heel, to a truly good person.

She was further rewarded later in the last season ofLuciferwhen her true love, Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro) reunited with her in Heaven.
