The premise ofParadisereads like a winning log line.

Broadly speaking, if you put Brown on the poster of anything, it’s a bonafide hit.

And by that measure,Paradiseis an abject success.

Paradise is a crime drama set in an affluent community where prominent residents' lives upend after a shocking murder.

The lighting is intentionally bad in the outdoor scenes to remind us where the characters are.

Parts ofParadiseleave a lot to be desired but those issues lie on the page, not the screen.

Browns performance is undeniable and it’s clear Fogelman wrote the role with him in mind.

Headshot Of Julianne Nicholson

The way he portrays intensity and care in the same look is one of a kind.

While Fogelman enters the sci-fi space withParadiseand the magic is not entirely there, unfortunately.

Cheesy lines and predictable turns will not be the death of the show.
