Congratulations on getting renewed for season 8!

How did you and the cast react when you heard the news?

And yeah, we got renewed.

My first reaction was excited.

[I’m] very, very excited to be a part of this family.

Again, if I come back, we never know.

The Rookie follows John Nolan, a small-town man who embarks on a new career as an LAPD officer after a life-changing event. As the force’s oldest rookie, Nolan faces skepticism from superiors who view his pursuit as a midlife crisis.

On set, it’s like a big family.

I wish you guys could see how much we interact and how much it’s just so smooth.

We have so much fun.

This is the most Miles-centric episode we’ve had so far.

What did you enjoy most about diving into his storyline?

Deric Augustine: When I first read the script, I was like, “Yes, finally!”

[Laughs] I love the fact that the fans are going to see more of Miles' history.

Which is going to bring me more fulfillment?"

And I think he has finally found that fulfillment and that family he desperately needed and wanted.

Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez and Zander Hawley as Rodge in The Rookie season 7, episode 10

Were you surprised that he turned down the position?

I think that the football life is closed forever now.

Being a cop is where his heart is.

The Rookie

I use substitution method in my acting and Ivana Chubbuck is my teacher.

My overall objective for Miles is to be the best cop in the worldto be legendary as a cop.

I think he’s all in now.

Do you think he played a role in Miles choosing to stay at Mid-Wilshire?

Deric Augustine: Most definitely, yeah.

Fans love that relationship.

Those little things Miles has learned and gravitated toit’s in his essence now.

Miles is always studying Tim, even though Tim is probably unaware of it.

And I think Tim is learning patience from Miles.

It’s different from Richard.

I think Miles looks at Richard as a father figure.

It’s really a difference between a father figure and a big brother figure.

That relationship is stronger from little brother to big brother.

There are Miles and Celina shippers out there.

She’s a taken woman, as Lisseth [Chaves] said, but you never know.

How do you feel about them going down that route one day?

Deric Augustine: You know what, I’ve seen the stuff, especially on Twitter.

I think they’re calling the ship “Milina” or something like that.

I think Miles is a professional.

That’s why when people were kind of shipping him and RachelMiles would never date someone his T.O.

dated, because I think that’s how professional Miles is, and he’s from the south.

We have morals and values in the south.

We don’t do that.

So they’re friends right now, and they’re very, very good friends.

And Celina needs Miles just as much as Miles needs Celina because they teach each other things.

I think Celina really teaches Miles how to be humble and how to get along with people.

I don’t need no help."

Is there a certain career path you hope Miles ends up on after he finishes training?

I relate so much to this character because I’m from the south, Miles is from the south.

Miles played football, I played football at the University of New Orleans while I was in drama school.

Just like he left his town, I left New York to pursue this acting career fully.

It all worked out, and it’s working out for Miles.

He wants to be legendary.

Wherever that takes him, I think he’s going to ride that wave.

But for me, I want a swaggy vest.

I want the detective holster.

I think he aspires to be like Will Smith Bad Boys.

I think that’s what punch in of guy Miles wants to be.

He’s a cowboy from Texas.

And wherever that action leads to, Miles is going to be ready for it.
