Summary
After years stuck in development hell, theUnderworldTV show is moving forward, and there are certain things fans want to see in the franchise’s return.
When the fifthfilm in theUnderworldfranchise,Underworld: Blood Warsconcluded, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) was named an Elder of the Nordic Coven of vampires with David (Theo James) and her daughter Eve by her side.
The vampires seemed to have finally achieved some peace in their conflict with the lycans, and Selene could finally put her Death Dealer ways behind her and embrace a new beginning.
Even though it seems like Selene, who has remained the central figure throughouteveryUnderworldfilm, has concluded her story, there are still unfinished narratives to tell according to theUnderworldTV show’s latest update.
Not only that, but many original franchise characters could return, and undergo significant character arcs with the long-format storytelling anUnderworldTV show provides.
Exploring new aspects of the franchise could not only satisfy longtime fans, but also entice new viewers who haven’t experienced the gothic horror fantasy series.
10An Underworld TV Show About Selene’s Daughter Eve
Much ofUnderworld: Blood Warsis devoted to Marius’s hunt for Eve, Selene’s daughter.
Selene and Eve share a telepathic link, which both allows Eve to remain hidden safely until Selene needs her, and for her to know where her mother is at all times.
After Selene is named an Elder of the Nordic Coven and Eve joins her, it seems only natural that Eve would be trained like her mother in the ways of being a Death Dealer and if not, fans would love to know what else she would be doing as the heir to one of the last remaining vampire covens in the world.
9Vampires Rebuilding With A New Coven
Where once there were many powerful vampire covens around the world, by the time Marius leads the Lycans in an assault on the Nordic Vampire coven, they’re almost entirely wiped out.
After Selene rips his spine out and forces the Lycan Armies to surrender, the Nordic Coven is the first to be rebuilt, though there would no doubt be others that would need attention.
AnUnderworldtelevision series can focus specifically on how each vampire coven approaches the process, and which ones adopt more progressive principles like the ones Selene and Michael fought for, and which ones make a run at grab for power with traditional doctrine.
8An Underworld TV Show About David
After Scott Speedman didn’t return to theUnderworldfranchise as Michael, Theo James stepped in as David, a powerful vampire and the true heir to the Nordic Coven.
Not only did he fill the void of Selene’s love interest but he also was a new character who might’ve been able to head a franchise of his own hadUnderworld: Blood Warsbeen a box office success.
James has remained in the limelight in popular streaming series likeSanditonandThe White Lotus, and anUnderworldTV show could be his chance to revisit the character in a way that fills out his story and gives him more complexity with a longer format.

7A Kate Beckinsale Cameo
In 2016, Kate Beckinsale wasn’t open to returning to the franchise as Selene, particularly after the tepid receptionUnderworld: Blood Warsreceived.
However, in 2021, Beckinsale said she wasn’t opposed to returning toUnderworldprovided there was an interesting story and not just look like a soulless cash grab.
If nothing else, a Kate Beckinsale cameo in anUnderworldTV show would ground it in the franchise as well as legitimize it in the eyes of the fans who might otherwise not watch it without her presence.

6Less Camp, More Believable Action
As theUnderworldmovies progressed they became increasingly far-fetched and unrealistic even for the inherent logic of their universes.
Fans found them noticeably more campy, with vampires and lycans able to perform stunts straight out of the MCU which, while visually appealing to some extent, often took fans out of the story.
AnUnderworldTV show is a chance for the franchise to return to the stylized action that characterized the first film and put the franchise on the map as a slick take on the action-horror genre in the same way thatBladedid.
5An Underworld TV Show About New Characters
In lieu of Kate Beckinsale, Theo James, or any original franchise characters returning, anUnderworldTV show could choose to focus on an all-new cast.
With the chance for new vampire covens and lycan packs springing up around the world again, there are infinite ways that new members could be introduced, perhaps even sparking old tensions.
History might be doomed to repeat itself, or these characters might choose to take a stab at live in harmony, but either way, fans would be introduced to new characters and villains to root for.
4More Underworld Lore & World-Building
The firstUnderworldpacked a lot of lore and world-building into one movie, with each sequel adding a little bit more, and the third film being a prequel that set up and explained the impetus for the vampire and lycan war entirely.
A television series has the opportunity to expand on these practices in an impactful way, such as explaining more about how vampires can breed, how their bloodlines become well-known, and how lycans adapted to no longer being vampire pets.
3Detective Sebastian & The Humans Within Underworld
After Michael’s storyline was more or less concluded offscreen inUnderworld: Blood Wars, it seemed like the human element of the franchise died with him.
The only other human of note to help Selene, and her daughter was Detective Sebastian inUnderworld: Awakening, but the series still focused so much on the vampire and lycan feud that it seemed like humans faded into the background despite the federal government becoming increasingly aware of their conflict.
Including some human characters, as well as what happened to Detective Sebastian after he helped Selene, would offer an intriguing contrast to the vampire and lycan element of the show.
2A Gothic Fantasy Horror Aesthetic
Underworldtapped into a very specific aesthetic in the late ’90s and early 2000s that is seeing a resurgence even now.
The gothic fantasy horror aesthetic cheapened as the series went on, but at one point, the public embraced black leather trenchcoats, embossed and engraved black leather corsets, and all the design elements that made the fashion ofUnderworldunique and cool.
With shows likeNetflixmaking goth fashion popular again, anUnderworldTV show stands a chance of taking it a step further, and really showcasing some of the beautiful fashion elements from the vampire and lycan high society.
1New Underworld Monsters & Creatures
TheUnderworldfranchise brought in witches for the fifth film, so it’s possible that new creatures and monsters could be introduced in the television show.
In many ways, the franchise has only scratched the surface of possible supernatural rivals to the vampires and lycans, including litches, demons, and more.
Even if it ventured outside the establishedUnderworldcanon, it would still be interesting to explore the rest of the horror elements through new creatures, perhaps even a common enemy for the vampires and lycans to band together and face.
